Save Community College Athletics

To some, community college sports are extracurricular activities. To others, like Jackie Robinson, they are the pathways to greatness.

Before breaking the color barrier and before becoming the first athlete to letter in four sports at UCLA, Jackie Robinson lettered in four sports at Pasadena City College.

In fact, thousands of college athletes have made their mark in community college before capturing our hearts as college and professional stars. In nearly every sport and almost every four-year school in California, you will find California community college graduates.

Whether to save thousands of dollars or to get a second chance academically after high school, community colleges provide students the opportunity to realize their academic and athletic potential.

Unfortunately, these programs are under attack and Sacramento has proposed a 40% cut in funding, which will cause colleges to eliminate many sports.

As similar cuts are not being made at UC, CSU or high schools, community colleges and their students are again being unfairly targeted for cuts, and community college students will be unfairly hurt.
