Shortly before dawn, the House of Representatives voted 235-189 to send H.R. 1, the Continuing Resolution that cuts Pell Grants by $5.6 billion, to the United States Senate.
The fight is not over. Republicans who voted for this bill told us privately that they did not want to cut Pell Grants and were hoping the Senate would hold strong to support higher education opportunity.
Congress is on recess this week, working out of their district offices and will resume consideration of the bill on February 28 with only a few days to spare before the March 4 deadline.
